The Dual Diagnosis Diaries | Kia’s Journey: 🌻 Outside Is Overrated, and My House Is a Five-Star Resort 😂

↳

Dear Diary,

Every weekend, I tell myself the same thing:

Kia, you really need to get out more.

You work all week. You deserve some fresh air, a little sunshine, maybe brunch, maybe the beach, and perhaps some actual human interaction that doesn’t involve a Microsoft Teams meeting.

And for approximately five minutes, I convince myself this is an excellent idea.

Then I open the front door.

And suddenly, I remember exactly why I pay rent. 😂

☀️ The Great Outdoors Is a Scam

Now, don’t get me wrong.

I love sunshine.

I moved to California for the sunshine, the beaches, and the luxury of never having to shovel snow again.

But there’s a difference between enjoying a beautiful, sunny day and stepping outside into temperatures that make you feel like the atmosphere has personally chosen violence.

And MG and heat?

Not exactly besties.

While everyone else is outside enjoying the weather, my muscles are drafting a formal complaint and threatening to shut down operations.

Then there’s Los Angeles traffic.

A simple trip to the store can turn into an entire documentary titled Why Did I Leave My House?

And then there are the people.

I love people. I really do.

But sometimes, I prefer loving them from a distance.

A very comfortable distance.

Preferably from my couch, in my pajamas, with snacks and absolutely no obligation to engage in unnecessary conversation.

Is that really too much to ask? 😂

🏡 Welcome to Kia’s Five-Star Resort

After briefly considering the outside world, I look around my house and remember that I already have premium accommodations.

Let’s review the amenities:

  • 🛏️ A luxurious pillow-top bed with no checkout time.
  • ❄️ Climate-controlled accommodations customized to my exact specifications.
  • 📺 Unlimited entertainment with absolutely no dress code.
  • 🍿 A fully stocked kitchen with snacks available around the clock.
  • 🛁 A private bathroom that doesn’t require waiting in line.
  • 🧸 A peaceful environment where nobody expects me to socialize.

And the best part?

This resort has a strict no-pants-required policy.

Five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Highly recommend.

Would absolutely stay again.

Honestly, why would I leave this level of luxury to sit in traffic, spend money, search for parking, and interact with strangers?

Especially when the resort offers complimentary naps and unlimited access to the refrigerator.

Somebody explain the logic. 😂

💜 My Roommates Have Opinions, Too

Of course, Crohn’s and MG occasionally like to participate in my weekend planning.

After spending the week working, attending meetings, managing responsibilities, and asking my body to cooperate, sometimes the last thing I want to do is get dressed and go somewhere.

Crohn’s may decide we’re spending the afternoon getting reacquainted with the bathroom.

MG may decide my muscles have already reached their weekly activity limit.

And fatigue?

Fatigue doesn’t even bother asking.

It just shows up, takes over the couch, grabs the remote, and announces:

“We live here now.”

Apparently, my roommates have decided this is an all-inclusive resort, and nobody bothered to consult management.

So yes, sometimes staying home is about giving my body the recovery time it needs.

Other times?

I simply don’t feel like putting on a bra and dealing with humanity.

Both explanations are perfectly valid. 😂

🌻 I Haven’t Retired From Having a Life

I still love going to the beach, traveling, spending time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, and making memories.

I still enjoy getting dressed up, going out, and doing things that make life feel full.

I haven’t retired from having a life.

I’ve just raised the admission price for anything that requires me to leave my house. 😂

These days, an activity has to be worth the energy.

And you know what?

That feels like growth.

There was a time when I thought every weekend needed plans.

I needed to go somewhere, do something, be productive, and make the most of my time off.

Now I understand that sometimes making the most of my weekend means waking up without an alarm, drinking my coffee slowly, listening to music, watching a movie, baking something, scrolling entirely too long on my phone, or doing absolutely nothing.

And I refuse to feel guilty about it.

My peace is expensive, my energy is limited, and my house has excellent customer service.

😂 The Weekend Negotiations Continue

Will I have this exact same conversation with myself next weekend?

Absolutely.

Will I wake up Saturday morning and tell myself I should get out of the house?

Without a doubt.

Will I scroll through local events, consider going to the beach, or think about having brunch somewhere cute?

Of course.

And then I’ll remember that getting there requires getting dressed, driving, parking, spending money, and being around people.

At which point, I’ll look at my bed.

My bed will look at me.

And we’ll both agree that staying home is probably the responsible decision.

Besides, why leave a five-star resort when management already knows your name, the accommodations are tailored to your needs, and late checkout is guaranteed?

And management is me.

Reservation confirmed. Weekend booked. Do not disturb. 😂🌻

🎵 Music Playing…

“Flowers” – Miley Cyrus 🎶

Because apparently, I can buy myself flowers, take myself dancing, and still decide that the best date I can take myself on involves my couch, a blanket, and absolutely no plans to leave the house. 😂

💭 Reflection Corner

I’ve learned there’s a difference between isolating yourself and genuinely enjoying your own company.

Rest doesn’t automatically mean you’re missing out.

Staying home doesn’t mean you’re wasting your weekend.

And a quiet life isn’t necessarily an empty one.

Sometimes, the greatest luxury is having nowhere to be, nothing to prove, and the freedom to spend your time exactly how you want.

Living with chronic illness has taught me to appreciate that freedom even more, but this lesson extends far beyond Crohn’s and MG.

I’ve learned to recognize when my body needs rest, when my mind needs quiet, and when my spirit needs something more.

Some weekends, that means getting dressed, going somewhere, and making memories.

Other weekends, it means giving myself permission to simply exist without expectations.

Neither choice makes my life any less meaningful.

Because living fully isn’t about how often you leave the house. It’s about finding joy, peace, and fulfillment wherever you happen to be.

And sometimes, that happens to be in my pajamas, under a blanket, enjoying the finest accommodations my living room has to offer.

No reservations required. 💜🌻

💬 Let’s Talk!

Are you someone who needs to get out of the house every weekend, or are you a proud member of the My House Is My Favorite Destination Club?

And be honest…

Have you ever gotten completely dressed to go somewhere, looked outside, reconsidered your entire life, and changed right back into your pajamas? 😂

Tell me in the comments.

I know I’m not the only one enjoying these five-star accommodations!

💜 The Dual Diagnosis Diaries | Kia’s Journey 🌻

Sometimes living fully means going out, making memories, and saying yes to the adventure. Other times, it means protecting your peace, listening to your body, and appreciating the comfort of home.

One day, one laugh, one lesson, and one beautifully imperfect moment at a time.

With love, laughter, and a permanent reservation at my five-star resort,
