Dear Diary,
Today is infusion day.
Another Tuesday, another Rystiggo treatment, another morning of reminding my immune system that we’re supposed to be on the same team. Apparently, after all these years, it still hasn’t gotten the memo. 🙄😂
But today was different.
Not because of the medication. Not because of my nurse. And certainly not because Myasthenia Gravis decided to pack her bags and move out of my life.
Today was different because it was my first Rystiggo infusion in my new home.
And what a difference a change of scenery can make.
🌻 Same Routine, Different Soundtrack
Normally, infusion mornings come with their own soundtrack.
Dogs barking the moment my nurse arrives, as if they’re announcing the arrival of a celebrity. Children getting ready for school. Parents trying to get everyone dressed, fed, organized, and out the door.
Just the everyday sounds of a household coming to life.
And then there’s me, preparing to spend part of my morning receiving medication because my immune system has apparently decided that attacking my own body is a perfectly acceptable hobby.
But this morning?
No barking dogs.
No children running around.
No parents reminding somebody for the fifth time to put their shoes on.
Just me, my plants, Winnie the Pooh, and my nurse.
That’s it.
And you know what?
It was absolutely wonderful.
🍯 Winnie the Pooh, Plants, and an Infusion
There I was, surrounded by my plants, with Winnie the Pooh keeping me company while my nurse handled my treatment.
Honestly, Pooh might be the perfect infusion companion.
He’s quiet. He’s comforting. He doesn’t ask unnecessary questions. And his biggest concern in life is whether there’s enough honey.
Meanwhile, I’m over here trying to convince my immune system to stop treating my neuromuscular junctions like enemy territory.
We all have our struggles, Pooh. We all have our struggles. 😂
My plants were minding their business, looking pretty, and doing what plants do.
My nurse was doing what she does.
And I was enjoying the unfamiliar experience of having absolutely nothing else happening around me.
It didn’t change why I needed the infusion.
But it certainly changed the experience of receiving it.
💜 Same Treatment, A Different Experience
Living with chronic illness means certain things become permanent fixtures in your schedule.
Appointments. Treatments. Medications. Follow-ups. Insurance headaches. And, of course, the occasional surprise from a body that apparently believes consistency is overrated.
Rystiggo has become part of my routine because managing MuSK-positive Myasthenia Gravis isn’t optional.
I don’t get to wake up one morning and decide that I’m tired of having an autoimmune disease.
Well, technically, I can decide that.
I decide it quite frequently, actually.
Unfortunately, MG doesn’t accept resignations. 😂
For so long, infusion day has been another medical obligation woven into the activity of everyday life.
Today, I experienced that familiar routine in a completely different setting.
My own space.
My own surroundings.
My own little collection of things that make me happy.
And I hadn’t realized how much I would appreciate that until this morning.
Because here’s the thing about chronic illness: it has a way of inserting itself into nearly every aspect of your life.
Even the good things.
You can move into a new home, start a new chapter, make new plans, and create new routines.
But your diagnoses don’t magically disappear because your mailing address changes.
The treatments still need to happen. The symptoms still have to be managed. And some days, your body will remind you who’s really running the show.
But just because chronic illness is part of my life doesn’t mean every moment has to revolve around the struggle.
Today wasn’t about how difficult treatment can be or the frustration of needing ongoing medical care.
It was about experiencing something familiar in a new way.
And appreciating the difference.
🌻 Finding My New Normal
Moving is exhausting under ordinary circumstances.
Moving while managing chronic illness? That’s an entirely different adventure.
My move certainly wasn’t without its challenges. In fact, the beginning of this new chapter came with enough complications to make me question a few life decisions.
But this morning offered a welcome contrast.
No moving-related frustrations.
No unexpected household commotion.
Just an ordinary medical appointment taking place in a space that is slowly becoming home.
I’m still figuring out where everything belongs, how I want things arranged, and what my daily routines will look like.
Apparently, I’m also discovering that infusion mornings can be surprisingly enjoyable when the only other residents demanding attention are houseplants and a stuffed bear.
Neither of which has complained about my choice of morning activities.
Yet. 😂
🌻 A Little More Peace, Please
I don’t know what every infusion day in my new home will look like.
I’m sure there will be mornings when I’m tired, mornings when I’m frustrated, and mornings when MG decides she needs to remind everybody that she’s still here.
Because, unfortunately, that woman has never respected boundaries.
But today?
Today was a good morning.
And after everything that comes with managing chronic illness, moving, working, and simply trying to keep up with life, I’ll gladly take it.
Maybe that’s one of the unexpected gifts of starting over.
Not everything has to change.
Sometimes, it’s enough for the familiar things to feel a little different.
Same diagnosis. Same treatment. Different address. A little more peace.
And if this is what infusion mornings are going to look like moving forward, I think Pooh, my plants, and I are going to get along just fine.
Although I may need to establish some ground rules with Pooh.
The honey is his.
The peace is mine.
And MG?
Well, she wasn’t invited in the first place. 😂💜

“Easy” — Commodores
Because sometimes you don’t need excitement, noise, or a grand adventure.
Sometimes, being comfortable in your own space is more than enough.
💭 Reflection Corner
Today reminded me that I don’t have to wait for everything in my life to be perfect to enjoy what’s good about it.
My diagnoses haven’t changed. My treatments haven’t changed. And I’m sure life will continue throwing its occasional curveballs.
But this morning, sitting in my new home with my plants, Winnie the Pooh, and my nurse, I realized something.
I wasn’t thinking about everything that had gone wrong or everything I still needed to do. I was simply enjoying where I was.
And for someone whose life often revolves around responsibilities, medical appointments, and managing the unexpected, that felt pretty wonderful.
Until next time, Diary…
I’ll be over here living, surviving, tending to my plants, keeping Pooh company, and reminding MG that she does not get a vote in my decorating decisions.
With love, laughter, and a little bit of honey, 🍯🌻💜
